Modifying a worn out DMF

what i meant by what i said is if you set the flywheel down you can move it in and out a little. if you weld it off center it can viberate and tear up the clutch. the clutch disc side of the flywheel attachs to the crank side by a bearing. that bearing even new will have some play in it. so if welded off center when you let out on your clutch it will feel like its coming apart. im not saying its going to be out of balance due to the welds, just that if welded off center then its going to have some bad things happen in short order

Yeah I figured out what you meant, but when I had it apart to get a borlen pressure plate bolt out, There was no way for this DMF to have lateral, or run-out play. All six bolts went in there only one, very tight way. I dont remember seeing any sort of bearing either. Maybe we have two different DMF's here....

And I really dont want to use a 7018 upside down, I will just stick with short beads on a mig, thanks for the replies guys

Please, whatever you do, don't weld it. I;m a welder and I can tell you that no matter how good you are you will not be successful.

It's not that it can't be welded (it can) but it will be off balance and will end up screwing something, for sure.

IMHO your waaay better off putting up with the noise, till the weather improves.

Ok, does anybody have a SMF they would like to sell , well maybe I will just do the lucky mod when it gets out of the forties!!
