It happened again!
Last weekend my van gave me a hard time to start it. Same symptoms as the time before when air entered in the fuel line. I removed the fuel filter and it was half full. Got a new one (I'm keeping always one now in the van as per MIDNIGHT RIDER's good advice) filled it up and put it back. Then I remembered that MIDNIGHT RIDER and LCAM-01XA said I may still have a problem somewhere in the fuel line. I bypassed the water filter (just had to disconnect one hose from the entrance and put it where the other hose coming from the exit point was clamped to the metal line) and then I discovered that half way coming from the switch that selects which tank to use, there was a piece of rubber hose connecting to the metal line that was a little too long and had a kink. It was restricting the flow of diesel! It was starving the engine I think. I cut it and fix it too. Then I started the truck, after it cleared the air from the line I heard the engine purr like months ago. I just took it for a ride today and boy!
, now it runs very strong! Wow! My daughter (12) was with me and said: "The van feels alive now Dad! It was sluggish before and for month behaving like that I thought: "Well, it's getting old". It's as strong now as the first time when I bought it (it had 15,000 miles then).
I think if I remove the stupid water separator I have enough space to mount there the filter MIDNIGHT RIDER recommended. All the lines are there already and I don't have a better place to put it. My van is kind of crowded with lots of stuff in the engine compartment and along the chassis with plenty of AC hoses for the rear unit and wires for the different systems I have inside that van. Is not only my shop on wheels but also it turns into a small camper when we go visit the family in Miami.
