any ideas of how i can make a 86 f250 6.9l 2 wheel drive go threw the snow decent? like what tires to use,exc

Weight! Put some weight in the bed, keep the tank (s) as full as possible, run a GOOD all season or winter specific tread in the back espcially, preferrably on all four corners, and SLOW DOWN. Speed is your enemy on the slick stuff. I travelled for 2 years in the winter with a 2wd S10...never had a problem
While you are at it, make sure all your GP's are working, you have no air intrustions at the retuen lines and your coolant it up to *****.

Traction tires, and chains are a good idea. Put about 500-1000 pounds of something in the bed.

ok, i got a hige pile of concrete blocks i could put in my truck, would michlen all season tires work ok?

Or you could become a snow bird and move to the desert for the winter.
Seriously, put weight in the bed and drive slow. Getting there late is way better than crashing, sliding off the road or into a drift. Remember, as soon as a slide starts, you instantly turn from driver into passenger.

throw her into neutral/press the clutch(as fast as you can),and remain the driver.
(unless your going uphill,then all you can do with 2wd is turn the other way,and nail the throttle,and hope you reach the top lol......just be prepared to swing her the other way again.etc.etc.

I run all season tires without a problem. I have been driving for almost 10 winters now....never been off the road once!

). Damn near unstoppable.

Go to the feed-mill or some friendly farmer and get a whole bunch of feed-sacks, not the paper ones.
Go to the local quarry; and, while your significant other holds the sacks open, shovel them full of #8s.
Tie the sacks with a mill-knot.
1200-1500 pound of these is about right.
Line them up across the rear of the bed aft the axle for the most good.
Crushed stone is far better than sand, as it doesn't become water-logged like sand does, therefore it doesn't hold moisture against your bed.
If you put these away under roof when spring comes, they will be useful for several years.
Plus, unlike concrete-blocks and the like, you can dump a sack of rock in front of the tires to help get traction.

He can't run studs or chains, I'm running cooper discover 265/75R16 and have good luck. You want a narrow tire, if it's you're first winter with a 2wd then put some weight in it, but on the first snow of the year find an empty parking lot and play around, learn the truck if you're comfortable with it you can learn to control it in a slide, hell, I like driving sideways.

Leave the damn concrete blocks out. Sand or stone in bags are fine. In an accident, your fault or there's, you don't want concrete come crashing thru the cab. Fill the bed with snow also when you get some. Slow down, let the FOOL'S CRASH.

That is part of my religion.
You will find us at the local community hall screwing around in the empty parking lot at first snow....I don't know about doing it anymore....I got a half decent truck now and I don't wanna hurt it.

I ran four studded tires for several winters, believe one of them Detroit streets still has the marks from when I had to throw her in reverse and lay on the throttle hard to stop her from sliding into some fool who first passed me on the right and then put his truck sideways across the street - shoulda seen his face, whiter than the snow that was all around. Still, if you get caught, it could be a real nice ticket... What's the deal with no chains tho, I never knew anything about that? Sure you can't run them all the time, but they ain't supposed to be run all the time (like studded tires are) either - you only put them on when snow gets deep, everyone I know from the UP has a set in their vehicle they put on fairly frequently during the season...
