lift pump failure questions

I dont think i saw the yr or mileage on this vehicle.
But it sounds like whats going on with my 94 IDI...I have a glass in line filter and it went dry on my way home from work so it got towed. It has a 2 yr old mechanical fuel pump but someone on a thread suggested if it is a high mileage rig, the cam lobe may be worn out so i will most likely block it off and go with an electric fuel pump. 1994 Turbo IDI 307,409 miles on er.

completely different set up.
I replaced the fuel pump, and every thing was ok on this truck,
until it had a drop in power.
I have oil leak down syndrome in this truck, changed hpop, IPR, CPS.
still not getting anything more than 700 psi of oil from the hpop, I suspect a cracked front timing cover.
instead of pulling and fixing, im rebuilding a new engine
