IP going bad ?

While checking my timing I had the engine warming up at abt. 1000 rpm and noticed the timing was all over the place, yet when I brought it up to 1400 it was dead on at 4 deg.. Bad ip or other problem ? ---Thanks--Dennis

when mine does that I give the clamp a wiggle and tighten it some

Sorry abt that--I'm using the Ferrit pulse adapter and a advance style timing lite.
