You need to find a gauge that will work with the same ohm readings as whatever sending unit you use.

For what it's worth, I found these numbers posted a while back...

1980-1986 truck fuel tank sending units read 70 ohms empty and 10 ohms full.

1987-1997 truck fuel tank sending units read 22.5 ohms empty and 145 ohms full.

Check any aftermarket gauge...for example, most Isspro fuel level gauges are meant to work with senders that read 240 ohms at empty and 33 ohms at full, although I did find a few that were 78 ohms empty and 10 ohms full and could work wtih an '80-'86 ending unit. I did a quick Google search and couldn't find anything; maybe someone else has a source?

IIRC 240-33 ohms is pretty common for aftermarket fuel level gauges. If you find an aftermarket gauge that will do 22.5-145 ohms, please post it!

Warden, that is excellent info! The closest to that number I can find is 16-158 ohms from autometer. Thats pretty close IMO, 15% difference in sweep range. How that will effect the gauge..not sure, Im sure you can get used to the slight variation it may show, but it will be pretty good at showing empty IMO.

auto meter gauges, the 16-158 are said to be newer fords and chrysler. Each sending unit will read a touch different as well,so that range you posted, and the "spec" given are a pretty decent match IMO.

I was actually trying to avoid buying another gauge, goiod to know the stock 91 gauge has the "new" range, so does the super duty sender. should be compatible for my application.
