My 88 IDI has a new engine but no block heater. I have been poking around Google I did not realize there was such a variety. I found them from $20 to $180. I am not sure I see that much difference in them.

Make sure you get one that fits. It's not just the diameter that matters. Depending on how the holding mechanism is made, you may or may not be able to install it. Ask me how I know. [emoji21]

This type won't work.

This one does fit. If you zoom in you can see the PN on it.

That is a clean engine. I cannot zoom in enough. It gets blurry.

So the OE heaters I looked at is the way to go. I thought$20 was too good to be true.

Kat's 11605 600 Watt 38mm Frost Plug Heater fit in my block. I only had to install it twice because it leaked the first time. I vote for installer error.

When you install a block heater make sure the heating element never touches eith of the cylinder liners.

Sorry for the multiple posts. Phone is giving me issues.

$25 from Amazon. I can't speak to the quality. I don't use it living in Sacramento.

Some of the different prices, some come with the 120 V AC plug in cord. If you have the OEM cord, it's probably rotted. Not safe.

How much?

You live in Georgia. Do you really need one? I live in Va. and I have never used one. Someone added one in the lower heater hose on mine, but I don't even know if it works, I have never had to use it. Even during some of those terrible cold snaps we've had. I have thought about trying it out, but I don't want to pay the electric bill that would come from using it.

I am not sure if I will need it, but I want it just in case. I have heard too many horror stories about the winter and these old trucks.

Mine sprung a leak. I replaced it with a freeze plug since I have never used it
