Ive been running down a power problem with my rig & have it almost fixed but still running a bit sluggish.Im new to diesels & read to unplug icp to see if itll smooth it out.Well when I Unplug it looses about all power & white smoke comes out of exhaust when I hit the throttle. So whats going on?I need to swap it out as there is oil in there. But with these issues with it unplugged is there other issues it's hinting to?Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have a oil or fuel problem.
When you unplug the icp, you should get a distinct change in idle.

Check your oil level. Could have an IPR problem also, check tin nut on it. Check your fuel filter for oil getting in it, if it's dark indicates oil is getting in from bad injector o'rings.

ive learned the hard way with these trucks.
scan twice, replace once.
without a scanner your chasing your tail all day.
this isnt a carburated engine or an IDI.
computers arfe great, until you have a problem.
could be somthing as miniscule as the lack of dialetric grease somewhere.
hence....SCAN TWICE REPLACE ONCE.
