After coughing and one lose injector shooting the bean all over the place, she purrs like a kitty thats been sleeping since Oct. Now I have a loud rattle coming from my tourque converter area. I know everything is tight and straight down there, but what might be the possible offender? Also would a not wanna opening up tstat cause my temp to shoot up towards 230 degrees? Its a motorcraft tsat for that truck. Or the correct one. Right now Im running staight tap water to get all the crap outta of the heater core with no hose clamp on the lower hose. That lower hose blew off in the end. Could I possibley put the clamps on both hoses and run the temp up to force it open or will I tear the motor up?

Hey man...if the temp is truly 230* then that is a troubling sign about problems with the cooling system. It probably is just air int the cooling system however. After the diesel shop did my oil cooler for me the temp shot up to 250+ or that's what the gauge showed anyway. It was never that hot, I'm pretty sure, else I would have been looking for an engine or at least changing head gaskets again I think. The engine never felt excessively hot, but it did take in a LOT more coolant. It would help if you had an infrared heat gun you could check the temp with but I know many people don't have those. I bet it will burp some air out and you'll find you're a couple gallons low on water without seeing any spilling out. Still, be careful, overheating a 6.9/7.3 seems to be one thing they are not too forgiving of. Good luck,

Its not getting physiclly getting too hot. It takes it awhile to get there. But heres the kicker: I only get like 2 gallons of water in it.Im gonna try it again.

8 gallons?! It finially started running normal, but 8 gallons. Heck before I swapped bodys, I think I put 4 or more gallons in it and it ran fine. Now trying to figure out whats rattleing around the TQ/flexplate area.

That includes the radiator, the engine and the coolant overflow bottle filled to the max line. I don't know about anybody else but I find it doesn't usually take QUITE 8 gallons but 2 is nowhere near enough. I don't know if the whole cooling system was drained or just the radiator. Sounds like you know your engines so as you know that makes a big difference. I suspect there is still a tiny bit of residual even when you open the block drains which really doesn't matter unless you're replacing the coolant with something like Evans waterless coolant.
