Asmith as for the remote setup, it is mainly for space purposes. Also having it that far back keeps the turbine housing cooler and cus of that less heat is transferred to the intake side. Go check out ststurbo.com. They will have a lot of info cus they sell remote kits for many gas applications. Also of note, wmoguy is using a Vgt turbo in his setup...

excuse my ignorance, still have alot to learn about the world of diesels, but what is the reason for running a remote turbo? is there an advantage to it?

The turbo is huge. No room under the hood to feasibly do this.
