so I think I figured it out. I guess the cdr valve was removed and a road drip tube installed. at first I saw the hole and no tube attached, fished around and found the tube. anyway. searching for a better way to attach the tube cause it was just jb welded in place.
just bought her 1990 f250. didn't run cause the lift pump was shot. replaced that and got her running. new tires tomorrow and then I can retire the gmc and get back into the fords.
replaced both front calipers
new pads
fixed broken rear brake line
flushed brake system
changed oil
changed coolant
next will be rear shoes, deferential fluid, transmission, transfer case fluids...
cool old truck

A lot of guys like the road draft tubes. I myself prefer the factory setup. I've never had any issues with the factory stuff so I've never felt the need to do a road draft tube. Also I've read that the road draft tubes can goober oil making a mess.

X2 on putting it back to factory. CDR system works fine, road draft make the truck look like there's a fire under the truck and often there are reports of engine oil leakage without the proper system to depressurize the crankcase.

Please put your truck in your Sig with all the trucks info. Everyone then has a referrence when you ask questions.
Welcome and enjoy the truck.
If your ever going to put a turbo on it, punch 3 - 4 1/4" holes in the deflector/baffle down thru the CDR hole now.
Banks uses that hole for the turbo lube oil return. Non-turbo valley pans won't let the oil drain fast enough.
X3 on doing away with the road draft, unless you put a catch can at the end of it, dirty oil on the road and fumes in the cab makes a bad name for our Diesel's.

Will do.
So when I got home from work. I get tires on and go for a spin to fill the tanks. Sweet Moses! It's got a 4 inch straight pipe and no muffler. Crackle...
Seems to wander I bit. Could that be tie rod ends and pitman arm?
everything else works. Gauges,lights,cruise.

Yes , i will be doing coolant flush this weekend. Rear shoes and transmission service.
Parts store tells me there are two different size rear shoes. How can you tell which ones with out having to take the old shoes in? Can they tell from the vin #

Brake shoe info is not in the VIN.
The two sizes (width) is 2" and 2-1/4" IIRC. Can't tell unless you look at them and measure.
