High Idle Soleniod

Hey guys my dads trucks (the 86' below) high idle soleniod when out today on his way home from work and we are wondering where to buy a new one. I think International and Ford might have one, but any other idea is welcomed. thanks

You live in the desert,you dont need one.
You only need it if it gets really cold out, way below freezing, If I remember correctly its close to $120 at the dealer ???

Pretty much. Both my high idle and cold timing advance don't work and my truck starts just fine. It might be a different story in another 2 months though.

Not worth it in my opinion. Mine doesn't work either. I just put my foot on the gas pedal and get er up to 1200 rpm for a few minutes to warm up engine before I take off down the road. I call it the "free" fast idle solenoid.

I kind of get O.C.D. when things do not work properly, the high idle solenoid would definitely fall into the category of must work. Good luck with yours.

Anyone remember carburetors? They're this thing that magically mixes air and fuel into the intake manifold without a computer. I know, that's crazy talk. A lot of carbs had an anti dieseling solenoid on them. I think they are called idle stop solenoids. anyone tried adapting one for this purpose?

I'm gonna be replacing my solenoid with another one floating around here soon...as mine don't work at all

Lots of times some ebay listings for complete injection pumps include that solenoid and the prices are about the same as posted here for everything. No real need to be in a hurry to replace it. I think you should test it just to make sure its bad. Remove the wire and run a hot wire from the battery. Touch the connection on the solenoid. If it moves its ok and the problem is elsewhere.

We did the test and the plunger didn't move so we pinpointed that.
