94 f350 idit leaking oil after I put in a spectre fuel pump. Truck became hard to start when hot so being hopeful I changed out the pump hoping to preserve the I.p...weeks later started leaking oil. also have a coolant leak rotted bottom on radiator that has caused rust to get clogged in the thermostat I believe causing it to over heat and show engine temp light. Have new radiator going in and just picked up new Ford fuel pump but I was wondering if it could be anything else causing this b4 I ruin another 100$ oil change and hopefully save someone else a headache. 120k truck runs great besides a little hot when there's rust in system. did injectors at 100k

Ya DON"T buy a mechanical pump....get a good Carrier electric, and plate the block...

My best 2 cents for ya...primes system much easier too!

I've primed system atleast a half dozen times and it's torture lol but doable. I'm envious of electric just take pride in an original all mechanical. But if a block off plate landed in my lap I wouldn't have hesitated to grab a holley red or w.e lol

No way the electric pump can wash out the motor? And anyone have mileage ideas on them?

I walked over 4 miles to get a good ford part. I don't really want to change my mind now but I respect this community hah.

Installing an electric lift pump solves many issues. It saves the batterys and the starter from long cranks to purge air from fuel systems. Just do not run an electric and a mechanical lift pump together. The electric overcomes and breaks the mechanical pump diaphragm and floods the oil pan with fuel. you injection pump may be the fuel source getting into the engine. See if the pump has a weep hole under it by using a mirror or rag. It might have a seal thats failed and filling toe oil with fuel. Now why are you paying someone $100.00 to change oil. Do this before you change the radiator. Run some coolant block flush and get rid of the crap in the cooling system or face that rust issue for a long time. Use only DISTILLED water and quality coolant on the refill. Then the new radiator will not fail again. Distilled water is not electrically conductive. Electrolysis wont happen every.

I could've had it changed for me cheaper but don't want to wipe out bearings. Walmart still hasn't restocked so advance set me back 80$ for 15w40..10 for new filter Purolator was 20. Iv only ever used 15w40 in this truck mostly motorcraft 5's

Thx for reply and screw spectre any way I will look forward to an electric upgrade after these big issues are solved. Drain plugs out till I know the injection pump is solid...

Do bad lift pumps kill off the I.p or is 120k really the mileage? Looking for pump shop on east coast anyway

A bad lift pump can cause fuel starvation and possible wear and overheat problems in the IP. The IP is lubed and cooled by the fuel flowing through it, so if it doesn't have enough running through it, it is possible to cause problems. If I remember correctly only 10-15% of the fuel that is pumped from the tank actually ends up going through the injectors and powering the truck, the rest just returns to the tank. This is what lubes and cools the pump.

Most on here see and average of ~120,000 miles before an IP and injectors start to show wear and impact performance. Now don't get me wrong, there are many cases outside this norm. I have heard of people having trouble after 40-50,000 miles, and have heard of some at 300,000+ miles on the factory IP and injectors.

For a good pump shop on the east coast, you have Mel (agnem on this forum) that owns Conestoga Diesel Injection in Willow Street, PA. He is the creator and still produces the Moose line of IP's you have read about on this site. He can get you an IP, injectors, return line kit, turbo service and upgrades, gauges and filters for your truck. He also has the proper tools and knowledge to correctly time the IP once it is replaced. A side bonus, if you are close enough and do not have the means, ability to change these items out, he also has a shop at that location and can perform the work for you is needed.

The very last turbo idi ever built pretty much so I really want to see what she's got just as much as I'd love a trip to PA
