Hey guys. I've been mulling over the thought of getting my self into a Diesel truck (7-9th gen F-Series) for the past year or so. Now I'm in a position to potentially get one (as my first vehicle) which makes me excited! I hope to learn a lot from this forum!

My ideal truck would be an 88-92 F-250 regular or extended cab. I don't need 4 wheel drive, but I do like the way the 4wd models sit. Trans, I'll leave it up to the forums to tell me which the best one is. KMs/Miles, enough that it will run fine most of the time. I'd be willing to some wrenching if I had to. I have no mechanical experience personally, but that's what forums are for, right? Price: $4750 CAD would be the most I'd be willing to spend.
Also, I'd like to find a vehicle that is as stock as possible. I would also consider a 83-86 F-250 reg/ext cab at the right price.

I've noticed these two for sale in my general area

With that kind of budget you shouldn't have a problem finding a good IDI diesel truck around here.

88-92 pretty much has you stuck with either a ZF 5 speed for a manual or a E4OD for an automatic. Both are solid units if properly maintained. I'd vouch for the cast iron tank that the T19 4 speed manual transmission is if you want something you can't kill.

Generally these IDI engines are designed to be easy to work on, generally inexpensive to repair relative to their direct injection cousins, and very reliable.

These are no egos here, so feel free to ask anything, you will get a real and honest reply.

Check out the various reference threads, they cover a lot of common questions, symptoms and fixes.

Once you get a truck, put its info in your signature so that we don't have to keep asking what you have.
