Heads directional?

Stupid newb question. Are 7.3 heads side dependent? I mean is there a left and right or do they interchange? I am pretty sure I read they do. I have seen exhaust manifolds flipped side to side for a twin turbo build.

Help a moron out here.

Same casting...but the temp sensor in the Drivers head would be on rear of pass side if used on that side and the pass side with the heater hose outlet would be on drivers...

Just sayin....same but different

I even thought about it and still installed my heads opposite the way they were. "Think long ,think wrong". It just required swapping around the pipe plugs and the heater outlet. The sensors weren't in place yet.

Well, it is a good idea to have the exhaust ports pointing down.

Sadly the drivers side exhaust ports on the manifold point upwards and the passenger side points downwards.

Geez, I can't see on this computer whether he has the exhaust manifolds on the heads. How can you see that?

I was confused by that too. I was asking because I was thinking about the intake manifold and wondered if it was symmetric. If the heads are interchangeable, I would think the answer is yes at least with respect to the intake ports.

Just a nit, but if your doing something like changing head gaskets, I would definitely keep them on the same sides they came off of. If you've had them machined, and got new parts in them, and no accessories bolted on, then no, it wouldn't matter.
