Personally, I don't think it's any more difficult than installing bolts...this is assuming you're changing out the head gaskets.
I replaced my bolts with studs in 2004...one of the best things I've ever done IMHO. I did this with the engine in the truck, and put the studs in after the heads were in place. This goes against "convention", where you are supposed to put the studs in the block and then slip the heads in place over them (this is not possible with the engine in the truck, but is easy with the engine on a stand), but worked quite well. There were a few studs that I knew I wouldn't be able to slide in after putting the heads on, so I put them in the holes in the head and used a rubber band to keep them from falling. Worked like a charm.
