GP HELP?

Hey guys I put new motor craft gps in, in March along with a gp relay Now its doing the same thing It clicks every time you turn the key but wont start I put new batteries in it in the fall an its not locks up. Any suggestion?

What truck? Year? 6.9 or 7.3? Did they test ok with a test light?

If the controller starts to do the after glow clicking right when you turn the key, then you have a few if not more blown plugs.

make sure everything is working first, then make sure they're all working together. Test all the plugs individually. When you're sure all the plugs are good, see if they're getting the voltage from the relay. If not, test the relay by unplugging the Black wire w/pink stripe and grounding it. That should make it activate the solinoid.

Heath the truck is a 94 f-250 7.3 turbo I didn't get a chance to work on it today I'm going to pull it into the garage tomorrow an test everything. How much voltage should there be from the relay to the gps? Do these trucks have to have the clutch pedal pushed all the way to the for it to start. I always do but could that be the trouble maker I'm going to but a new master cylinder on it because some one has rigged up something on the end of the rod an the clutch pedal sticks to the floor.

I grabbed a test light, pop the hood an went to work All the gps are good The relay only has power to one of the big post with the key on (12.31 volts) It should have power to both big post with the key on shouldn't it?

How did you test the glow plugs? The fast cycling means that the controller "thinks" the plugs are red hot, that usually is a loose connection or an "open" glow plug (resistance approaching infinity) with an Ohm meter. A test light is usually good enough to pick out bad glow plugs though not always with the solid state. resistance between above 0 but less than 2 is usually fair to good. If it has chewed glow plugs that have been replaced recently your timing is too far advanced or you have a problem with the controller(not common) I'd bet on one or two bad plugs or a loose connection.

I tested the gps with a test light an there all good. What do you mean when you say "chewed glow plugs" As for a loose connection I to the controller off yesterday an put it back on. So if your talking about loose connections on the controller thats not it

Diesel JD is saying you sometimes have to ohm the plugs, not use the test light. My own rule of thumb is .2 ohms or less is a good plug, .5 and up is junk.

Make sure the ground wire off the GP has a good connection.

Yes the clean ground is crucial. By chewing glow plugs I mean the advanced timing stresses the tips and eventually beats the tips off of it. Obviously your glows are fine. For some reason the plugs are not getting juice. I hope you can figure it out. I really wish I could help more, but I have a tough time with electric problems.

I double checked to make sure I wasn't missing anything an then call to some local Ford dealer for prices on the controller. Champion Ford is where I got my last one an it was 184.92 B.F Evans 280.13 Moore Ford 280.13 Differences in price was Moore Ford an B.F Evans were motor craft an Champion wasn't. For that kinda of money I think I'm gonna try buying a relay from Advance Auto an put it on the controller first. Thanks to everyone that has responded to my questions
