I want to get a fuel heater but what is the best kind? a coolant heat exchanger on the line? a in tank heater? I think one member mentioned putting a block heater designed for the oil pan on the fuel tank. What else is there?

I have thought of running WVO and to do that I would need to heat the lines/fuel. My thoughts have finally centered on a heat exchanger. Based on this set up:

Unless you live where it's real cold, you don't need to heat all the lines and tank, a good heater before the pump and heated filter will do the trick. The veg therm heaters that they have at www.plantdrive.com are great and easy to install, they get hot fast. There's a bunch of good heated truck filters out there ( although the Davco on one of my diesel cars is about to get used for target practice, it's a pain to get those things to seal and not suck air )
If you are going to run it through your main filter , they make a nice band heater that will go around it at grease works and for about half the price you can buy just the little heater pad and a $3 band clamp at the plumbing store and make your own
( did that on one of my cars, works great ) you can get bigger pad heaters to put on the fuel tanks if needed.
If you want to get real fancy, we used to run electric heated fuel lines in arctic conditions on some rigs, they work REAL nice, but be ready to shell out about $3-400
If you want a real nice heated filter, check out your friendly neighborhood heavy truck wrecking yard, there's usually a few carcasses with some nice big stock heated filter setups that will mount nicely under a truck bed pretty cheap, if you look at the Racor units at www.maesco.com you can identify the heated housings and the ones that can easily be made heated. A bunch cheaper than buying from the veg places ( and if you want a new one, their prices are about 25% of list, not bad).

I am very interested. Do you have any suggestions to do a conversion? I have the heat exchanger, and planned to buy the heated fuel separator, but I am interested in any other suggestions!!
