Fuel sender issues

Not a big deal since I'm dropping it in the new tank anyway. Question I have is this. The connector on the sender side (where the harness plugs in) is crispy. I'd really like to swap it and keep it OE. I can't find that half of the connector anywhere. Anybody have any suggestions? My second choice would be convert to weather pack. Can't find that either. I see the Spectre replacements for this vintage convert to studs on top with ring terminals I assume. That's the third option but in some ways more appealing than the weather pack.

I installed that spectra sending unit in my F250, I could never get the damn thing to work right.

fyi, MADPOGUE has a 2 prong pig tail I sent him, he was more interested in the FSV pigtail, he may want to part with it.

That's why I want to refurb this one. I think it's fine other than the connector.

I am looking for the part that plugs into. That plug is available. Easiest way to find it is looking for fuel sending units for the 70s- 90's mustangs. Ford used a billion of the things. They had to have bought them from somebody. Here it is on a Mustang unit.

that's part of the sending unit.
when I was dealing with the tanks on my 87, I made a call to someone that had the front sending units available..
I cant remember if it was LMC or not...

Yeah, I would just like to have that connector. There has got to be a solution here. I'll dig a little longer and if I don't find it, I'll pull the connectors and make my own.

all it is is a couple of 10mm machine bolts, insulated and through the top of the sender, then some female plugs and you're done!

Well essentially yes but then you don't have the plastic clip to hold it on there. I doubt it would come off but I don't want to be crawling around up in there trying to fix it if it does.

Most auto parts stores have generic male/female 2 wire plugs (weather pack, conductite, weather tite, dorman, etc). I'd retrofit those onto the ring terminals mentioned above. That'd give you peace of mind vs spade connectors coming apart.

Yeah, I may just do that. That would take care of the situation that could occur where you couldn't get the sender out because the nuts are corroded on top and you can't get to them. Just make s pig tail with a weather pack connector.

Oh now I understand what you meant by "weather pack" I hadn't heard of that brand.

Could use stainless hardware in the retrofit. It'll outlast the tank!

Homedepot or Lowes should have stainless machine screws, and nylon spacers that'd be good insulators.

I'll probably go marine. They seem to have what I need and it should be corrosion resistant. I could do it myself but I'd rather not. I know I can put together a feedthrough... I do it on vacuum systems all the time but it would be nice to not have to spend the time on it. That's my biggest issue these days. The couple hours I spend on a nice feedthrough could be spent on something else getting me closer to done if there is a reasonable solution already available. I'm going to play with the connector and see what I think the likelyhood of it falling off is. I may end up doing nothing at all if the pins are solid and not looking prone to leakage.
