I have a '92 F 350 2 door 2 wheel drive 7.3 5 speed 4.10 gear.Drove it 220 miles with air on at 62 - 77 mph pulling a 4 x 6 enclosed trailer and got 13.7 mpg.I think this low because i use to get 10 -11 pulling 30' enclosed trailer.What does everyone think.Thanks for any help

I have a 93 cc dually and it is averaging around 15 mpg empty and loaded it is getting around 12 max..You may want to run some Lucas with the fuel to clean the fuel system.. I have been using Lucas in my fuel, tranny, rear diff, and motor and the ole wagon has only had 1 injection pump and 1 set injectors.. It has 285,000 and running strong..

I'd pay more attention to my empty fuel mileage than loaded for seeing if something might be wrong or not. There are too many variables when towing a trailer...wind resistance and of course how much weight you actually have on it. The biggest thing that catches my eye is 62-77mph. If you kept it closer to 60-65 you'd really boost your #s. Really almost 14mpg pulling a trailer that fast isn't too bad. I second the fuel additive, plus if the fuel system is old you might need to replace it. If it has more than 100K miles I'd say at least check the injectors and if you have more than 2 or 3 bad ones you should just replace the set.

Thanks for the replys.I went buy and got some fuel treatment from a diesel repair shop and they had red line oil brand so i tried it.The truck has 150,000 miles on it and the injector pump has a slight leak around the throttle shaft.I asked if this leak would hurt fuel milage or power and they said no.So i decided to come on here to do some research. Thanks again

I got 18.66mpg from my last fillup, IMPERIAL MPG of course being a canuck....Probably would translate to 15mpg US or there abouts....I had some extended idling (road construction) and I hauled 3 cord of firewood too on that fillup....

I drive my truck about 100 miles round trip a day and I usually see 16-18 mpg, that's whether I'm on WVO, B20, or regular diesel. It's all highway and I usually keep it at 60 mph.

That sounds about right to me. I get around 13-14mpg towing my enclosed trailer at 65-70mph with 3.55's or at 60-65mph with 4.10's. My truck is a little different, but should be of similar efficency I think.

Here's the truck and trailer in question

Note, if the trailer is loaded really lightly (just motorcycles for example) or I'm towing in a pretty flat area I can get up to 16mpg.

The big question is how many RPM's are you turning to cruise? Over 2000, and your fuel milage will suffer big time. The Moosestang is proof of that. The Moose Truck, with OD, and 3.55's turns slow and back when I had stock injectors and pump, I could get 23 MPG with it on the highway. Lady Moose, with double OD, and 4.10's gets about the same milage, weather it's pulling 16K, or running empty, around 13 to 15 MPG. The Moosestang, which ways less than either of the other two, with no OD, and 3.54's turns 2600 at 60MPH and gets about 14.9 MPG. If it had OD, I'm sure I could get 20 with it.

When I was pulling the 30ft goosneck -I would get a little over 10MPG -as soon as I put a load on it 3,000 or over I pretty much averaged 8.9 MPG .This is not accurate as it ran all the time I was gone axcept for fueling and fluid checking,I slept in in almost every night summer or winter runnung either heat or air with the throttle set at 1000 RPM.

Maybe the O/D is what I really need too. I've been blaming the C6, but I suppose I'd be in about the same boat with the T19 unless I added an O/D of some sort. I have seen as high as 17-18mpg with a real awesome batch of fuel and or a lot of highway driving, but usually with my normal routine its 13-15mpg with mostly suburbia type driving with 40-50mph average and a lot fo stop and go, mostly no or light load.

I do a lot of suburbia driving too going to work and home. On my last fill I averaged 15.79mpg US or about 18.66mpg imperial.....I hauled about 5000L of water and 3 cord of firewood during that fill up too.
