I found fuel in oil in my 94 7.3 IDI several months ago so I've had it sit for a while till I could fix it. I've got an Injection pump and new injectors coming. When I removed the old injectors all the copper washers were falling off and one had a bunch of this black charred stuff on it. I had a loud popping or chuffing sound coming out the air intake for a while after foolishly using starter fluid to get the engine to start and then found all this the following weeks which I dont believe was an issue before. The sound stopped all of a sudden then shortly after I noticed the oil.
Basically I want to know if there is any other ways fuel can get into the oil aside from the IP leaking, lift pump, and the CDR Valve at the back of the motor. And what would cause the carbon build on only one injector? Also what could the sound have been?
