I found fuel in oil in my 94 7.3 IDI several months ago so I've had it sit for a while till I could fix it. I've got an Injection pump and new injectors coming. When I removed the old injectors all the copper washers were falling off and one had a bunch of this black charred stuff on it. I had a loud popping or chuffing sound coming out the air intake for a while after foolishly using starter fluid to get the engine to start and then found all this the following weeks which I dont believe was an issue before. The sound stopped all of a sudden then shortly after I noticed the oil.

Basically I want to know if there is any other ways fuel can get into the oil aside from the IP leaking, lift pump, and the CDR Valve at the back of the motor. And what would cause the carbon build on only one injector? Also what could the sound have been?

I got a theroy maby I'm wrong but if your truck was idleing for a bit with a stuck injector you could wash the cylinder pretty much flood the cylinder with fuel an it could wash past the rings into the crank case but your oil level probibly wouldn't raise much unless it went on for a prolonged period of time as for the popping and chuffing i don't know

The chuffing is a valve guide or lifter

I'd it would take a while to fill then I doubt it because I tried a couple things before I researched and I did an oil change and fuel was immediately in the oil well over the full mark on the dip stick

I've never dealt with this issue but wouldn't changing out the lift pump be the cheapest and most logical place to start?

Your injection pump or lift pump is bad.

I know the IP has been going out but I just wanted to know if there are any other ways fuel could get in the oil outside of those two. I've had two different lift pumps in so I dont think it's the lift. I just wanted to be prepared to move to the next thing if there is something other than the IP or lift

Those are the only two items that will fill the crankcase instantly with fuel, so Id look into getting the pump rebuilt. Its likely weeping into the crankcase out the front nose

Where did you get it from? Read through the hall of shame on fuel parts. There’s select few places I’d buy from, especially pumps.

A valve guide could soot up your oil but shouldn’t dump fuel unless it was a dead cylinder for some reason. Even then it wouldn’t be much. Bad lifter won’t mix fuel and oil

There was soot on only one injector because the copper washer wasn't sealing completely for some reason.

Pensacola Diesel. I went looking and found it for a good price and they had good reviews on Google but I was skeptical because I found some pretty negative ones too but I'll see how it goes. I saw on here just now how everyone seems to not recommend them. I've already paid and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow so we will see how it goes.

If it's a POS I'll just have the bank reverse the transaction and send there stuff back so they cant try to give me the run around.
