fuel hand messed up

my fuel hand is messed up, anybody got an idea of what could be wrong? i think its the float, it will show full for a second after i top it off but then it slowly sinks back down to E

Sounds like a bad float on your sending unit.:dunno Probably time for a new sending unit. Otherwise maybe a bad ground.

The stock floats are a thin brass and over time will develop a hairline crack and they will fill up with fuel and sink to the bottom of the tank.

I'm with all the above postings. Hopefully this is the front tank because that tank does not need to be dropped to remove the sending unit for repairs. the rear tank needs to be dropped or the bed removed to get the sending unit out. If it is the rear tank cut loose the fuel lines at the frame cross memmber or you will damage the lines and sender trying to drop the tank low enough to reach the disconnects. Been there and did that several times chasing a leak.:eek::sly
