Way off with the electric current flowing through the oil theory. Low voltage and amperage will NOT flow through oil to activate a gauge. The sending unit must be grounded.
im gonna check a few different things. first order of business is going to be rigging up a mechanical gauge just to put my mind at ease... then i will handle the instrumentation problem permanently
to follow up i put a regular air gap mechanical gauge on it and saw 30 psi at idle so who knows what's up with the factory sender... other than it being a pile of junk.
