flex plate question?

hey guys. I am swapping out my 6.9 and putting in a 7.3 factory turbo. But I am keeping the c6 I already have. I know that I need a flexplate spacer which I already have. And that I need a flexplate itself. I just bought one but I think they gave me the wrong one that they gave me one for a psd. so I am wondering if I can use any flexplate from any e40d or if I need a 7.3 factory turbo specific flex plate. or if I could use a 7.3 N/A flex plate. I think I need one specific to the engine but I just need it clarified. Also the part # for the flexplate I bought is Z-348

Yep. They gave you a power stroke flexplate. No worky.

You will need to get a flexplate from a 93 factory turbo engine.

The 6.9 flywheel won't be balanced properly for the turbo Pistons.

To just looked on some parts websites and they don't seem to show a difference between the vin C (NA) block and the vin M(turbo block) flywheels, but there is. You need to find one from a 93 model vin M 7.3 diesel.

Migth try calling BTS in Arkansas. Thats Brians Truck Shop. They make the best built E4OD trans anywhere. Do you have the heavy cast iron flex plate now or do you have the single thin stamped flex plate with the ring gear welded on it. I'm thinking you have the thin stamped flex plate with the spacer now.

So your putting in a 94 7.3 turbo in place of the 6.9.

Are you hooking up the C6 tranny to it? Not an E4OD, is that correct?

Does the 6.9 have the heavy cast iron flywheel with a spacer and then a flexplate for the torque convertor?

I may be wrong, but I think your going to have to use that same 6.9 setup.

Is the 6.9 flywheel starter ring teeth the same pitch as the 7.3 starter?

Will the 6.9 starter mount on the 7.3?

If you put a E4OD flexplate on and then the spacer, then the flexplate for the C6, you may be a little short for the TC to C6 flexplate, the difference would be the thicknees of the 6.9 flywheel and the thicknees of the 7.3 flexplate. IIRC about 3/8" to 1/2".

Edit: I'm thinking since the $200 flexplate (flywheel) is a cast iron flywheel since it has to be from factory direct.

So let me see if I have my thinking straight.
When I bought my truck, I had a 7.3 that came with the stamped flexplate, hooked to a c6. It bolted up perfectly btw, and did not need the heavy c6 flywheel.

I had the flexplate spacer, then the flexplate, then the torque converter.

What this guy needs to hook his turbo spec motor to the c6 would be as follows. Crankshaft, then spacer, then the flexplate, specifically weighted for the turbo rods and pistons( not any one will work, and also why he can't use the heavy 6.9 flywheel)
Then the flexplate bolted to the c6 torque converter.

Correct I am swapping out my 6.9 for a 1994 7.3 factory turbo. And I am going to use my c6 transmission that I already have. In the picture I posted I think I have the thin flex plate set up. Showing that I just need a specific flex plate than I can bolt it up. As cpdenton stated. but if it is the heavy flywheel set up then what will I need? Also the engine I purchased came with a starter. But another question is is will the fuel pump from a 6.9 bolt up to this 7.3? Since I already have bought a new one for my 6.9 thank you!

I was just trying to think of the stackup, from crank face to torque convertor face.
Since yours came like your saying, that's what he needs then.

I've seen turbo flexplates with balancing weights on them. Although my PSD E4OD flexplate does not have any balancing weight's on it. In fact I bought a flexplate from Tousley Ford up at White Bear Lake MN, to carry along when I thought it was going bad, there was no weights on it, I had never seen my original plate before, fact is, I wasn't asked if I had.
Tousley Ford parts is now known as Autonation Ford parts, any part is 10% over there cost.

If a Factory 7.3 turbo has a specific balanced Flexplate on it, I would think it would have to be put on, on the engine hot test stand, where they check the engine running for balance and other things.

The lift pumps are pretty much standard bolt pattern, same pumps have been used for years and years on gassers and diesel as long as there not direct fuel injected. I have a 84 460 that takes the same pump.

That thread was very imformational. I learned a lot! But I just went back to return the flex plate and I tried to find the right one but they couldn't even bring up a part #

Ah. What I was afraid of after reading that thread. Does the guy you bought the engine from have a flexplate maybe? Or know where one is?

Run yoylur 6.9 parts from crank to torque converter...you MAY be able to get that THICK flywhwwl uou posted picture of balancex for turbo....just keep the 6.9 parts from crank to converter...

Hopefully uou can find out about balqnce from machine shop...
