Hey Guys

I picked up Boomer about a year ago ( she named it.......it fits..).. The od says 42,***..i am going with that means 142 ***..... i drove it over 500 miles, didnt burn a drop of oil and there is no blow back . A few other guys who have looked at it and know motors agree , it is really tight.

It has 4 wheel disc brakes, with a micro lock system . The rear is a Dana 80 with 513 gears....just flushed the fluid, and put 140 weight in it..looks brand new inside the housing..thinking about swapping the rear one of these years to a something where i dont need to pull a tank...i

As of right now, i just picked up a duralast fuel pump. The mechanical one went, so I had wired a cheap electric pump as a temp to hold me over till i got the duralast. . Got it for a 100 including shipping from a aircraft company in Cali.

Finding out that these rigs had problems with the dual tank set up, the rear has been replaced with a steel tank. The passenger side is still orig. Plan on cutting out the deck on that side and making a hatch. be able to replace it then The lines for the hydos are run on that side,,,, so if one blows , be easy to get at.

Oh..it is a 1990 F 450 Super Duty. I will post more pics soon as possible, I appreciate any input from you guys. I plan on keeping and working this for another 30 years...

Howdy! Good to see another towie here. :D
nice Century 412 backend you have on the chassis.
I've owned F450 towing equipment since 1993 and they have been very good to me.
if you ever have any questions, ask away here or drop me a pm if you have time.

1) be a man. put a sling on the truck and learn how to use it :D
2) i'd do something about that bullet hole in LF fender before the local LE's see it and pull you over "just for a conversation"

Thanks..i like it soon as i ran across it.....it was a ' classic ' , needed........still does....... to be painted, and mechanical stuff fixed. i am doing it a little at time, not towing with it yet. Kind of my personal use vehicle. Love the look on peoples faces when i pull in someplace..can tell who hasn't been paying their car payment.

The bullet hole was from Rick, guy i got Boomer from. he had did a repo here in Washington...nut gave him the keys, and vehicle, then took a shot at him....Ricks not the kind of guy you want to pull some crap like that with, so i dont know what happened afterward...I do know it had a new radiator in it when i bought it from him...

i still have the sling Tow cat.....do you want it ? That thing weighs a ton...but nothing on this rig was made half ass.....

...i will have some questions about things Tow cat, ...... i have never used a set up like this...just slings...I like the two booms, when i was in Oregon, people would drive out on the beach and get stuck....i have 150 ft on the spool, and another 150 ft of cable ..if i can get it around a axle.....i can drag you back....when i go back, i will be doing it again im sure..

Have a good day guys and see ya......Paul

if you learned on slings, put it back on your truck. there will be many situations where a sling is still the best choice of towing tool.;Sweet
A wheelift is nice, but it allows people to get careless and then damages start. anothing thing to be careful with using the wheelift on heavy vehicles...ie trucks. that's where a sling is a better choice then. here's a few pics of my wrecker collection. yes. I collect them.

Ha..i see you do......

i understand , it is very easy to bang some thing up nowadays..cars are plastic anymore. I have a heavy duty hitch i can hook on the wheel lift.. so if i do tow something nice, i was thinking about hooking up a trailer to it and pulling the car on it... that way i would keep the rig's front wheels on the ground.....i pulled a old ford truck once..and my front wheels were barely touching the ground.....didnt go far , but can see how that can be a problem...

if you used the sling to tow the truck, your front end would be back on the ground due to the center of gravity is now changed from pivoting waaaay out back. I do have a carrier in my fleet too. I've even went as far as cheating with my '92 f350 with U-haul trailers :D

Had a guy who bought a generator and needed some one with a boom to come pick it up and set it in one of their trailers...he pulled it back to his place, and we did the same......l we did a lot of driving , to get it and take it back to his place, but i made 500 bucks that day....the hooks come in just as handy as the wheel lift does...

What is the rear in your geared at ? I want to get something else besides 513's..not for when i am pulling anything, but when i am not loaded, like to go faster then 55..thats kind of top speed..

most of my f450's are 5.13 trucks. I had a 4.62 rear, but it died years ago. there's all sorts of internet rumour floating around that you can get lower gears, but our older D80 don't interchange with the newer stuff
as always, find your serial number on the pass side axle tube and that will confirm if you are getting the right parts.

I have to get the fuel tank situation straightened out first.. debating about eliminating the dual tank set up,and get rid of that selector valve . I just got the Duralift yesterday. Put in a new 30 gallon tank in the rear , and run new fuel lines. A guy has a dually rear with disc brakes for sale on craigslist, it has 410's in it..but i think it's too wide.....

Some body before me had replaced the original rear tank, it's either 16 or 19 gallon.... long steel tank. The original passenger side is still there... leaving that alone for now..... i should have enough room in the rear to put it there..saw one of Ebay for 150...just the tank..its long type. I will have to put some more straps in of course.

I am just getting back into fixing the stuff on Boomer....concentrating on the fuel for now. Removing the clutch fan and putting an electric in,a better air intake , and fixing the drive line brake axle is on that list,,,,

You're right....other one is too wide.......i was hoping ..it was only 300 bucks..
