Filter head leak

The filter head in my van had alot of sealant around an area that leaked a bit. Well a bit at idle anyway. Under way it apparently leaked alot. I scraped off all the sealant and jb weld the previous owner mustve installed. What is this threaded plastic thing and how do i get it out? What seals it?

Sorry cannot tell what I'm looking for in the photo. Is it the plug for the fuel heater on top of the head itself that's leaking? Or is it the plugged filter sensor that's threaded into the head?

The heater plug is sealed by an o-ring and is fairly simple to swap out, or you can just thread the hole and plug it. As for the sensor, it just unscrews from the head. You're either going to want to replace it, or plug the port.

Its leaking from the plastic piece my finger is pointing to. The whole area was a big glob of goo before i scrapped it clean

Yours almost looks like it was already plugged. but I can't tell from the photo. It "used" to have an o-ring (or some had 2 from the sounds of it). I replaced the o-ring and the leaking stopped. If it was previously plugged, I'm not sure what you could do next.

Thats the fuel filter heater like explained and several members have used JB Weld to plug that hole. Some have drilled and tapped it for a pipe plug too.

Exact same thing happened on mine. I followed the guide on FTE on how to replace the two o-rings, been fine ever since.

So I was thinking about it, while waitng for someone to respond, wondering why there was all sorts of goo on top.....then said to myself "Self, pull the filter off and look underneath"

Well DUH, that made sense. I was worried it was all buggered never thought to look underneath. One O ring and its fixed, thanks.

I'm not sure what happened to the top of this thing, its all mangled. Doesnt matter I guess, its sealed.

It's gonna blow up!!! Better sell it to me for $100 before it does!!! lol

It's just the fuel heater o-ring. I repaired mine about a month ago by disassembling it and putting in a new o-ring, though then you are risking it leaking agian. Since your heater is already non-functional I would just tap it and put in a plug. From my research it appears that the heater is really not needed and is somewhere around $300 for a new one IIRC.

I really dont like the filter being the highest point of the fuel system, I will likely get a different filter of some sort and relocate it.
