i just bought a 1992 f350 7.3 crew cab dually. I love it, but I pulled my 30' camper about 20 miles and I could see the temp. gauge get a little warmer. I did hear the fan clutch working. Today I shut off the engine with the hood open, and noticed the fan freewheeling to a stop after engine was off. Is this normal???

Sounds normal to me. Get a real temperature gauge. The factory gauges are just this side of a fair guess.

Everything is relative. It's going to depend on air temperature, engine temperature, and what you consider "spinning". :dunno

welcome to the site. rule of thumb for replacing clutch fans is if they spin more than 2 complete revolutions on shutoff, it's time for replacement. depending on how cold it is where you live, you may want to fudge it up a little.

The engine was cold. It was early morning, I only had it running for about 10 minutes. It was 60 degrees out.

Yes I am new, I live in Northern Illinois(Mchenry) Last week I bought a 1996 suburban with 6.5 turbo diesel what a mistake it was a dog And has a cracked head. So this week I bought a real nice 1992 Ford crew cab dually 7.3 idi
I love it, the old owner put alot of time into it, included a new ford trans and its warrantied for another 34,000 miles.

I'm pulling my 32' camper with it this weekend (5,500lbs.) So I'm hoping I will have no problems. Hoping to talk to you guys more and learn as much as I can, as this is only my 2nd diesel And I know now gm 6.5's are crap!
