Has anyone here done a 12V swap and used the 460 ZF5-42 Transmission? If so, tell me how it worked out. I'm doing the swap on a 1989 F350 2wd that i will use for towing. It has 4.10 gears. I like how the truck pulls with the 460. I'm doing the swap for better fuel economy. I don't plan on turning up the cummings. Any input would be greatly appretiated.

was told 460 zf5s are lower geared because of power band to diesels. Scott at destroked has plates for around $700. if staying stock just stick with nv4500. cheaper and easier conversion.

^^Not necessarily true. They just got a bad reputation because some transmissions came through with incorrect bearing preload. Also, rebuilds have a bad rep because of the builder doing the work is using crap or setting them up wrong too. The trans in my truck is at 160k with no problems. From everything I've heard about the 4500 is that it really is no better than a G360, it just different issues. For cheap and easy swapping, use something that was available behind the Cummins from the factory. No need to buy expensive adaptors, especially with a 2wd. If I were going to the trouble of a swap, I'd at least try to find a 6 speed instead of the 5. The 5s are good, but the gears splits on the 6 speeds are just right.
