Engine storage

How should I store an old 7.3? Running great when pulled, just don't have the time to put it in anything? Drain the oil? blow out the fuel lines? Wrap it up? Any ideas? Thanks

the crate engines we get are flushed out to get the acids out of the deposits and then put ona pallet, all the tubes and holes are plugged and then the whole thing is painted to seal it. back on the farm we drain everything, fill it completely with thin oil or kerosene, plug all the holes to keep critters out and stick it someplace out of the way and out of the weather.

I'd change the oil and filter, and then overfill by a quart or two. Take the glow plugs out, and hand crank it while you spray some outboard motor fogging fluid in the intake. Reinstall the glow plugs. Seal up the intake. Store it somewhere where the temperature is constant if you can. Before you run it the last time, spin off the fuel filter, put a new one on, and fill with Howes diesel treat or equivelent. Run it long enough until you feel that the pump is full of that stuff. Spray the outside of the engine down with a silicone spray to fend off moisture. When you go to re-start it, pull the glow plugs again, replace the oil filter if older than 1 year, check the intake for vermin, and crank to purge any liquid or condensation. Once the starter has oil presure coming up, then put the glow plugs in and go.

Always stored them the same way, full of thin oil.
