Does it rattle like a powerstroke? Timing could be to far advanced.

Black smoke can be caused by to much fuel, lack of air or timing advanced to far.

If its not timing and you did not turn the fuel up to me it sounds like its not getting enough air.

Is your intake plugged at all?

I had a similar issue once when I tried to run the a soup bowl lid with a restrictor plate style air cleaner. Went down the road and it was powerless and blew tons of black smoke.

"the fuel pedal feel like it has no travel "

Could your throttle cable have a problem - like at the end there is a tube like peice with a spring that could hit the outer part of the cable. I had an old cable that was bent cause me to not be able to get full throttle.

1. use puncuation when posting.
2. calm down and ask a question in a civilized manner.(no disguised cuss words)
3. the timing is off. the marks on the timing cover and pump mean nothing except for the original factory pump(when new) you have to have a timing meter to be able to set the timing. find some diesel shops around you're area and see if they can set the timing(and not by ear).
4. this isn't a gas motor. putting more fuel does not hamper the performance. there is no air fuel ratio on diesels so to speak. there is under fueled and overfueled. and on a diesel the more fuel = the more power.(if matched by enough air) what i'm trying to say is that turning the pump down will give you even worse performance than you currently have.

what kind of smoke are you seeing? what EGT temps are you showing?

These motors need to be timed and not just set to the timing marks. Those marks are only a starting place. You need to find a place that can use a timing meter that uses the pulse method of timing. What this is... Its a meter that has a clamp probe that connects to the number one injector line. Every fuel pulse in that hard line sends a pulse to the meter telling you what the advance or retard is. Its really the best way to time these motors.
