just wondering since my old cab was pretty much resting on the turbo since it was so rusty... would that cause the egt's to be higher with that cab vs the new cab with a 2" body lift.

reason i ask i just got the gauge reinstalled siensor was always left in. its reading 2-400* less. this is the banks gauge in the banks location im aware it is a less accurate spot, but that's what it has.. before freeway driving i seen 800* now its around 400*, now ambient temp is down about 35-45* outside.

im thinking of turning the fuel up its only been turned up 1 flat since this motor was installed in this truck and then the banks turbo on..... but dont wanna burn a motor up with a bad gauge, dont smoke at all now.. is there really anything that can go wrong with them?

Gauge can go bad.
Clean the connections.

Everything is clean I just hooked it up in this cab it was only outta the truck for bout 3-4months didn't drop it or anything

Gauge still operates normal like it did before but it's just not the same at high rpms, only thing I thought with the cab was it could cause more air flow around the turbo, the front and rear mounts were so rotted I don't know how the cab didn't come off

Strange for sure. I don't think the body lift would affect it, if anything make it higher from more wind resistance.

i agree with outside wind resistances, but what i was thinking is more air flowing passed the turbo now causing it to run cooler down the freeway, and not be trapped in the engine bay. since its seems to be about the same local/city driving. im not joking when i said the cab was on the turbo.. i have about 4-5 inches maybe more behind my turbo now..

Well I guess it could.
What kind of air filter setup do you have?

a very clean banks cone.. it was nasty.. and i just cleaned it. it was nasty with the old egt readings.

cone is just open above intake btw but that hasnt changed.

Restricted air flow due to a dirty filter will cause higher EGT's. My Jetta would haze on a quick accel onto the interstate. Replaced the air filter (have no idea when it was last changed, but it was BLACK!!! New filter, no more haze. I'm sure my EGT's went down a bit also....

^ Yep, bet it was the air filter.
But also raising the cab back up could maybe let more air flow through.
So say instead of pulling in *** under hood temperature, your now pulling in xx temp air.

could i use a infrared laser temperature gun at the area around the egt sensor after a hard run and get accurate temp? assuming the heat gun reads good. then compare to what the gauge is reading. seems like it would be hard to do for a high egt..
