I was sitting around trying to think about any other issues in my auto to manual swap that I might encounter and then it occured to me I hadn't looked at the wiring.....Are there any nuetral safety lockouts or etc that I will need to jump or re-wire? I know my IDI will shut down if I go from forward to reverse too fast in the snow - I figured it could be reading shaft speed to direction in the tranny and shutting the engine off to protect the trans.:dunno

No, thats just stallin' the motor. lol

When you put in the pedal assembly for the stick, the clutch position sensor is built right on, and as far as I know, will plug right into the stock wiring under the dash instead of a jumper. The computer will set all the codes for the E4OD operation, but even on the EFI/E4OD integrated gassers, it doesn't affect engine operation.

Heck I'd ditch the computer all together and see how a stick IDI is wired from the factory in the haynes manual.

Seemed wierd the way it died, just a theory that I had. I see it a lot in big rigs - shaft speeds are monitored for all sorts of things.

Stuart,

I know that in the 4sp auto to 4sp stick swap done on the Bronco prior to my purchase of it they did not hook up a neutral safety switch and did not change the computer from the auto to a stick computer. The truck runs and drives just like the slapped together beater it is......minimal problems with minor headaches...

You should have no issues and if you do not feel like hooking up neutral safety switch...don't.

I think I have the NS switch, I will hook it up if I have it. I'm going to sell the E4OD complete once I get it out....Should be able to get $600-$800 for it as it works A1.

these trucks aren't that sophisticated. the E4DOA harness you see outside of the firewall is essentially plug-n-play. The FIPL connector, VSS sensor, shift selector connector, trans solenoid connector and all the wiring in between to the ECM is one separate sub harness from the main harness. If you want to remove the harness intact, you will have to unbolt and lift the cab high enough for the connectors to clear between the cab ans the frame. Also there is a loop securing the harness on top of the frame that you will have to remove too.
good luck;Sweet

Been there, done that. Pain in the butt AND the engine and trans were out! Couldn't imagine doing it with everything in place.

Well there is no "stick" computer with an IDI. Same with a C6, there is nothing for a computer to control.

I believe with a manual trans there is a jumper wire down where the neutral safety would hook up, then you hook up a clutch switch topside. I don't know if the wiring topside is existing or not in an automatic truck.

the clutch interlock needs to be bypassed, there is a dummy plug that plugs in.
as far as the neutral saftery Im not shure, my 92 was already converted.
all that is left is the reverse lights.
as for the CPU it is for the auto only.

The CPU is coming out to be sold with the transmission....Reverse lights - no problem there....No issues here that I can't deal with in short order.
