it won't bolt to the 7.3 transmission, but it can be had with a medium duty manual 5 or 6 speed, and 8, 9 and 13 speed if you want to run on board air (be pretty wild having an f250 with a 13 direct in it lol). a 7.3 IDI weighs in somehweres around 1000 - 200 pounds? A DT466 tips the scales at around 1400 - 1500 pounds. Mechanics I talked to said an f250/350 frame would hold a DT466 without any stregnth issue.....be no different than having a diesel F250/350 with an 8 foot plow hanging off the front of it in my opinion.

That means its either a doghouse inside the cab or do what Midnight Rider suggested and extend the front of the truck long enough to make it fit comfortably. Lots of transmission choices since this probably bolts to an SAE#3 bellhousing. Ford uses an adapter plate to mate IH engines to their trannies. I bet you could make an adpater for a ZF5 but I doubt it would last behind a DT466, sometimes it seems like they have a hard enough time behind a 6.9/7.3

the zf 5's that came on the IDI's, unmodified are rated to 420 ft pounds (S5-42) and the powerstroke's were rated to 470 ft pounds (S5-47)....that's all the info I know about them other than they are heavier than hell.

Personally, if I were to do this and had a whole other truck to do it this is what I would do. Depending on the year, find a front clip of the same body style. Cut your front clip somewhere, and cut out a section from the other front clip (makes it a little easier, though still lots of moddification). Get it all welded up the way you like, and set aside. You will have to move the core support forward however far it needs to go. Build up some custom motor mounts, and you should be all good to go ;Sweet.

Just out of curiosity, how long is the IDI?
