determining gear ratio.

I still need some help determining my trucks gear ratio. The sticker that should be on the door is not and/or it was painted over. The tag that should be on the axle is unreadable. So i am looking for the next easiest way of detemining the gear ration.

i have a 2wd with stock tires and a C6. I am sure the ration is 3.55 or lower. i hit 58 mph at 2200rpm. Any guesses or other speed/rpm combos that could solve this for me without crawling under the truck and manually spinning things.

Go to the Randy's Ring and Pinion website and they have a gear ratio calculator. Just input the things you know, and it will give you the gear ratio. You will need to know the tire height.

that doesn't seem to work. wants to know the number of teeth on a couple of gears that i don't know.

I just used Randy's calculator and guessing you have 31" tall tires, you have a 3.55 ring and pinion in the rearend.

Simple way of finding the gear ratio. First jack up one rear tire. Place a chalk mark on the sidewall inside tire and one mark on the drive shaft. Now turn the driveshaft till you see the tire make one full turn and count how many turns the driveshaft makes. There... Now you have the gear ratio. If the shaft turns 3.5 turns then its 3.55. If it turns 4.1 turns its 4.10 and so on.... Now, do yourself a favor. Your under the truck... Laying on your back... Its time for a nap.. All warm and cozy under your truck.....ZZZZZZZ Been there... Done this too.....

i used to do the same thing at a shop where i used to work. In the winter they use to have this high heat gas blower and it made the shop toasty and warm in Grand Rapids and right under a car it was dark and comfy.
