cummins donor search? what to look for?

Dodge had 2 versions of the 4500. The regular NV4500 was in light duty 2500 trucks (maybe with the 360 V8) as well as a 4500HD in Cummins trucks. Also 3500 dually trucks had the 4500HD.

At least that's the way I understand it.

Sounds like the Dodge input shaft doesn't work with the early GM ratios

I'm sure you could turn a pretty penny selling a 6.2L turbo & NV4500 together.... or even scrounge up a NP241 to complete the package.

thats pretty much what i was thinking, although i wasnt sure. i think i will go with the dodge version nv4500, just for the ease of things, unless i get lucky and get a nv5600 for a reasonable price.

just an update, i havent found a engine yet but i found a tranny. ive been spending quite a bit of time doing research on this project and i think my build up is going to be an off frame restoration. the tranny i decided to go with is a fuller fso-8406a, it came out of a 2000 freightliner fl-80, it has a manual clutch linkage, and came with a good dual disk ceramic clutch for a 14" cummins flywheel. there is quite a bit of info on putting a fuller trans behind a cummins at http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/41978-nv5600-fso6406a-6-speed-fuller.html. i picked mine up for $350 off craigslist

i think the next thing in my quest for parts will be a sae #2 flywheel cover and a flywheel for a 14" clutch. if anyone can give me some info on finding these parts or how to identify the casting numbers on the flywheel housing that would be great. i would prefer the drivers side mount starter to help with room for exhaust on pass side. thanks

You planning to Divorce mount the 203/205 doubler? A 73-77 F250 np203 will have the correct input and yoke

Cummins

I don't remember where i just saw this. But if you look to the left front it may B mid way and there is a 53 on the block then walk on by. They have a crack problem up near the head that can;t B fixed. These ******* fellas probable know what I'm talking about.
