cranky cranky no start

got a buddy with a 97 f250 4x4 250k on clock service reg at 6k all of trucks life. no problems until today truck ran just fine shut it off and no start i checked it out and cranks good tach comes up to 500rpm when cranking but no start no smoke out of tail pipe either. tach does not bounce when cranking just comes up to 500rpm and stays until you let off key. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. im going back out to work on it again today after work.

could be cam sensor.check the fuses in the underhood fuse box.

Doesn't the CS trigger the tach? Fuel bowl filter heater will blow the 30 amp fuse, IIRC #22, causing a no start. Replace fuse, unplug heater. If that's it, replace with this. Could be the UVCH on either head.

it does but some tachs dont read till it starts.
