Also, check the heater hose that connects to the head. Ours is leaking, and it is running down the exhaust manifold to the bottom side of the manifold. Running along the bottom side of the manifold to the "collector" on the manifold and dripping off the collector and dripping on the large power wire to the starter and on the starter, then onto the ground from the starter........
It can happen, it's just not that common. It was more common on some of the early 6.9's. I was told that it was the gaskets themselves. International changed gaskets and pretty well fixed the problem.
