i did the zf conversion on my 90 F-350 and put the solid fly wheel in it and a used clutch set that came with the tranny and the clutch disk makes a horrible racket , and when i pull the tranny to rebuild it i want to put another clutch disk in it. Does anyone know where i can buy just a clutch disk ? or does anyone have a good one they would want to sell me. any help would be greatly appreciated !!:dunno

are you sure its just not the gear roll over noise that many SMF conversions hear? as does mine.

If I didn't know to expect some roll over noise, I would have sworn something was about to explode when I fired my truck up with the new clutch.

Call Ft Wayne CLutch, they will sell you just a clutch disc ( for a real good one get one lined with kevlar, and pitch a few extra bucks for a kevlar pilot bushing and ditch your pilot bearing while you are at it, it will save you a repair item down the road). You want a disc with springs in the center. if you used a clutch set that came with the tranny it sounds like you may have used a solid disc. With a solid flywheel and a solid disc the works would likely wand to shake itself apart

my disk does have springs in it

Good deal, then you need to look for other reasons why the thing is making a huge bunch of noise. If it's just an 11" clutch , that's part of the problem, they only have about 5 springs, if you had gone to a 12 1/4" flywheel you would get about 9 springs in the clutch disc and that cuts down a bunch on the rollover noise, ( it gives you about the same spring dampening as the DMF had) You can go to a heavier lube like a 30 or 50 wt synthetic ATF and that quiets them down a bunch ( I'm currently running 50 wt synthetic ATF, I've had it in temps down to 20 deg so far and cold shifts haven't been a problem, I've run 30 wt down to below - 20 just fine) . If you have an injector firing off a little or slonbbering a bit, it will make engine vibrations worse and that will translate into worse gear rollover noise

yes i believe it is an 11 inch clutch , it has 5 springs if i remember correctly,i've had 11"smf clutches before and it was quite enjoyable , its fine driving down the road and when the clutch pedal is down its only noisy when the clutch is out, or i can tap the gas pedal and it will go away until the engine idles back down, if thats not it i'm just gonna have to grin and bear it:dunno

I've done three SMF clutch jobs. Two were LUK and were quiet, and just used ATF in the ZF. The other sounded like hell. The LUK disc has 10 springs, pic below.

Agreed 100%, and here is the good news. Autozone sells the 12" set that has a lot more springs then the 11" also. I got the new single mass flywheel, 12" pressure plate, amd disc, throw out bearing, alignment tool, and pilot bearing for $385. They also sell the 11" so don't let them confuse it with that one. I have a commercial account so over the front counter will not be that cheap. Good luck with the pricing.

Yes, that's exactly what it does......noisy until you depress the clutch.
