This is my car after T-Boning a S10 on hwy 101 at freeway speeds. I ****** it left in the fraction of a second I had before impact to lessen the blow which saved a direct full frontal blow which I believe would have killed the other driver. The other driver admitted guilt to the CHP, so I feel OK showing you all before they write the report. I walked away with a scratch from my zipper that gouged my chest from bouncing of the airbag/steering wheel, and my knees, neck and seat belt area are soar but that is it. I will likely be very sore tomorrow morning though, it was a hefty impact. I think the green machine stood up pretty well considering the impact it took. Overall, I am happy with the protection the car gave me. To be honest I didn't think I would just jump out from this one.

Here is a pic of the truck that I hit. This is what happens when you loose control on a clover leaf on ramp to a major hwy in traffic. The driver put the truck right in front of me coming directly from the right side into on coming traffic at an out of control speed skidding from the on ramp. No where for me to go, with almost not time to react. I knew it was happening, and there was not way to avoid it. She did go on a stretcher with injuries, but she is alive at least. Pretty sure the driver of the truck will be out of commission for a while though with a direct driver side impact like this. I am glad I was driving this car and not my truck without a driver airbag, I would likely not be typing this right now I think if I had been driving an older vehicle with the amount of force I exerted on that steering wheel. I broke the tilt, and the levers on the column to.

Feel free to move to off topic a little later, I wanted to post in the "high traffic section" so everyone got to see it. Some one have a heart and send me a G.C. to a message parlor. ;Really:sly

BTW, all 5 lanes of traffic on Hwy 101 got shut down on this one with this pin ball game. I started in lane 5 and ended up in lane 1 which is the carpool lane. I was thinking I was going to get head on again, so I baled out for the K rail so I could jump it if need be.

OUCH! Glad to hear you're OK. It takes many people the real world experience of a HARD impact such as this to realize what all of those airbags and crumple zones are for. Your truck would have fared better in this wreck, but you and especially the other driver would have fared worse.

well don't forget that Contour is a Ford of Europe car. Much more stringent crash tests, my buddy does crash investigations and i've seen a few contours in weird wrecks. the passenger compartment does well.

if you were in the truck you def would have killed the driver of the s10. Glad to hear both are ok!

Wow... Driveing defencively is not going to help in this mess. Well at least the offending driver told chippy it was his fault. Thats got to mean something. The question is why did this happen....:dunno Had you been driving the f350 you really would have killed the s 10 driver. Thats a burden for the rest of your life... One nobody wants to carry..... And your truck would have been totaled. Insurance would total it for a tiny bent bumper or fender....

Damn I am stiff this morning, it is very difficult to raise my left arm. The shoulder is beat.

88Beast, mine is a 5 speed.

Warden, it is a tight curve, with a steep decline also. I think she came off 880 way to fast. On the ramp it looks like she lost control about 1/3 the way around, and then shot down onto the freeway. There were a couple sets of skid marks, all hers of course where she had locked it up a couple times while out of control. In this case, I could have been Mario Andriette, and I still would have smashed in to her. No time and no place to go.

Glad you walked out of that thing. THat had to get some internal parts swapping parking places
It's her fault, did you go and get yourself checked out? There's nothing worse than crap that pops up later that you didn't realize had happened just because you were so friggen tough at the time and it didn't seem like anything worth worrying about.

THey call that thing a Mondeo in Europe... and you can get it with a nice peppy 1.8L turbodiesel there too that gets just under 50mpg :sly
