Changing radiator

Well I am going to install the 5 row I got from Icanfixall to see how that affects the engine temp. I was going to do a new stat and change the fan clutch but I really need to find out what makes the real difference so like a race engine, one change at a time.
Wish me luck, if I can drop 20 degrees towing I will be happy.

I was wondering when you were going to add this to your truck... Just be careful lifting it up over the grill. Its all my skinny little arms can handle and even then I only make it to the top of the grill. Then I balance it and step up into the bumper cutouts and guide it down in. You will need the rubber mounts off the radiator in the truck cause my Rodney Red didn't have a set. I can "find" a set in the wrecking yards if you want a set... I'll use any excuse to go "shopping" for parts.... Gees... I'm worse than my daughter about shopping....

I just lifted the old one straight out and set the other in, I dont see a problem.

Usually I just hold it up with one hand and start all 4 mounting bolts with the other. Just to keep the parts from rubbing together, you know what I mean?

Its not an ego trip ,believe me, I am a little taller than Gary and have a bigger body to counterweight it. It is a heavy SOB make no mistake.

Luckily, the first time I change one out, I had a big flat bumper to stand on. They don't look that heavy , but looks can be disceiving.

Your right there it is heavy-I've done it a quite a few times-but now I use my cherry picker -yupper it is too heavy for me for me now.

Changing one variable at a time is a great idea. I would like to see the bigger radiator results. If you get enough temperature drop, you might be able to justify twin electric fans, although I think your towing might be too much for it.

I know that giant fan moves lots of air, but I hate the horsepower (aka fuel mileage) is scavenges, as well as the thought of it eating my special (read expensive) diesel radiator if it comes off. I really like Mel's set up, I should just duplicate it but I like to watch the progress of those with more time and patience than myself.

For now we'll just stay tuned

Hey Gary, if you are ever looking around in the yard and find a good radiator overflow bottle cap or two, pick them up for me. I'll pay for them and shipping. I've gotten a couple aftermarket ones, they are pretty much junk...You would think this would be an easy fix, but the new ones just don't push on right.

Hey Gary, if you are ever looking around in the yard and find a good radiator overflow bottle cap or two, pick them up for me. I'll pay for them and shipping.

My local U-Pull it has two IDIs with the radiators, coolant recovery tanks, and caps still intact. I'll see if I can get just the caps, but the guys up there might make me buy the whole recovery tank.

Well they have a hundred projects of their own, and they get up way later than I can handle. punk offered to come do it cause he needs my old one but he is busy so I just did it.
Took it for a drive to the beach to get tuna and it runs on the stat at this point, I will be leaving for Gerlach NV tomorrow with a 20ish foot Travel trailer in tow so I will see how that works in the high desert.
