My RV had a 4x4 filter when I changed the fluid in 2020 without the dent put in the filter or the pick-up thing.

Trying to figure out the bolt size for the transfer case. My adjustable wrench looks like it’s about 1 1/4? Need some more ugga ugga power to get this open. Gonna need to buy a new socket. Don’t have one that fits currently

By process of elimination I’ve found the nut to be 1 3/16 for anyone that needs that info in the future!

Now filter comes in tomorrow. This “notch” or “dent” that people keep talking about. I’d like to get clarification. Posting a picture of the old filter with the “straw thingy” already removed. Is the dent supposed to be in the circles area? I see something here but not sure what it could do.

Thanks for posting @Cubey don’t see anything different from mine. Will just go ahead and install my filter as is. Had to go with WIX but it looks comparable besides the paper gasket for the filter over the metal one from the original… I’m just going to steel the metal filter gasket from the 2WD filter I ordered earlier.

Going on as configured here with “straw” attached. Straws a little looser than before but I think it’ll work

A couple oddities I need opinions on. I found this bolt in the old filter. It matches the filter bolts. I have filled all eleven filter attachment holes. Now is it possible the PO dropped a bolt in the filter and purchased a replacement? Or do I need to figure out where this extra bolt goes??

With filter removed for reference. Two bolts exist above the filter.

If all the bolts are installed... then yeah someone left an extra one. Man that's a simple auto. The one on my old 2000 Corolla died and I worked on it a bunch... had 3x as many bolts as that C6 does!

Mid 1960s design.
For sure. I was flabbergasted with the complexity of the Toyota transmission, being that by AT standards it's pretty basic. It all makes more sense once you're researching and learning, etc, but surprising nonetheless for a first-timer like me.
