I have never had any problems with broken showerheads on any of the IDI's I have owned.......until last month when both broke on my 94 f-250.
This was two months after experimenting with RUG in my WVO blend. I took a 1000 mile road trip so I filled both tanks with WVO and RUG blend, drove 500 miles and filled up with the same blend again from my transfer tank. I don't suspect the WVO because I have done that for years, but that was the first time I had experimented with RUG in that truck.
So I am curious, those with showerheads that have broken in the fuel tanks, are you blending with RUG? Are there folks on this forum who have had tank pickup problems and know that there trucks have never seen homegrown fuel blends with RUG?
I know plastics are blended differently if they will see predominantly diesel. I am wondering if that blend is not resistant to gasoline.
For what its worth, I will not blend with RUG again for reasons other than this one, I am just curious.

Is RUG "regular unleaded gas"?
I thought he was putting rugs in his fuel tank? I was trying to figure out how that would benefit the fuel system.... :dunno

(To the OP, forgive the tone of that statement...I meant it in jest, although I do feel like the acronym usage gets to be a bit much especially given that not all of us do fuel mixtures/blends. Also, it's meant to be more of a general statement about acronym over-usage...nothing personal intended)

Seriously, people have had shower heads fail even when running straight #2 pump diesel and nothing else. They're not the most durable items known to man.

Someone once posted a brass fuel pickup that could be used with a piece of hose instead of the shower head...unfortunately, I can't find it for the life of me. Barring that, the hose with a V notch cut into it would be the best fix...

Am I correct in saying the "shower head" is about 2 or 3 inches in diameter? I think I remember seeing a picture of it. I am curious because I had my sending unit out a couple of weeks ago and while it did have a black plastic piece where the fuel was picked up, it was very small, only about 1 inch or a little less, and it wasn't broke off. I am wondering if my unit is aftermarket and has been changed previously? It's a 89.

To catch the rocks. In all seriousness I don't get the point of using a three letter acronym to abreviate a 3 letter word, just call it gas. I'm not aware of any alternative fuel mixers using leaded or higher than pump octane gas so it seems silly to me as there is no ambiguity. Maybe some do though, I'm not into any alternative fuels aside from burning my oil changes.
