My 89' has an intermittent ticking noise coming from the speedometer. You can hear it above about 30 MPH. It comes and goes. I can't quite tell if its coming from the speedometer itself or the cable.

Anyone happen to have a pic of how the speedo cable goes into the cluster? I could pull it myself but i'm away from the truck for the next 2 days. Just want to have an idea to see if its possible to lubricate the cable, or if anyone else has experienced this problem.

Did you recently have transmission or transfer case removed? Check to make sure cable is bolted to transfer case. Next pull cable from transfer case and check gear. Might have teeth missing???

Transmission and xfer case were removed recently but the source of the noise seems to be coming from the cab. Its either inside the speedo itself or coming from the upper part of the cable.

FWIW it made this noise before the transmission was removed.
