I've noticed the left rear wheel on my 92 F250 has been getting hot lately along with the smell of hot brakes. Today I could feel it dragging while driving through a parking lot so I stopped and reached under the box and pushed in on both cables. The dragging feeling was gone after that and no more hot brakes, which means I need new cables. These are still Motorcraft cables which are no longer available. I've had really crap luck with aftermarket cables both on my own vehicles and customers at work. I installed a set of Wagner cables on my Ranger about ten years ago and within three weeks they were already sticking. Can anyone recommend a good brand that actually lasts and doesn't seize up right away?

If the parking brake is sticking, I'd suspect the springs in the drum might be the problem too. The springs should have enough strength to pull the cable. All that stuff needs grease including between the parking brake arm and backing plate. It's highly neglected IMO.

You might consider just oiling the cables you have, if they aren't in bad condition.

This is for motorcycle cables, but same difference:

Brakes and all hardware were replaced less than a year ago. I had the arms apart to replace both adjuster cables and lubricated them at the time. I can try lubricating the cables. They're still the original ones.

IIRC Motorcraft cables are still available. I just bought the two rear cables from an online dealer (https://parts.haagfordsales.com/) and the NLA front cable from a vendor on Amazon. The intermediate cable I did have to buy aftermarket.

Part Number Part Name Price Quantity Total
F6TZ-2A635-C Parking Brake Cable $32.98 1 $32.98
F6TZ-2A635-CC Parking Brake Cable $41.26 1 $41.26

The front cable from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O0T9VM?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details

All for the '92 F250 in my sig line.
