how fast are you building boost?

I've got 0-10psi in about 2seconds, and I think I can do better.
Having never driven another turboed IDI I'd like to know if most people are doing better or worse and what turbo system

this is mine, 088 ats, 3inch exhaust, moose pump:

Hey I'll check in the morning Drew, that seems pretty quick. Is that an automatic? Mine is the fac. turbo 7.3 w/5spd. I'll do a roll in 2nd at 1200 to
see what happens.

I have a 91 f 250 with the 088 ats turbo on and I can 10 psi in 3rd pretty fast. First gear I can hit about 2 psi and second I can get up to about 6 psi. Third gear I have plenty of rpm to hit 10 psi. I really dont know what 4th and 5th does yet. I really dont what to push the old girl too hard right now.

Oh wow! I didn't know the 088 was capable of that!! Maybe I drive like 72 instead of 27 maybe that's the problem. If I mash the pedal I can hit 6 pretty quick but not in 2 seconds, and that's only when I'm on the highway at 65 and up or have a big load wow!!

I can hit 10 psi almost as fast as that with my stock pump turned all the way up. I have to be at or above 2500 RPM though.

Wait a minute, DeepRoots,

Is that all the boost you can get with your 088 even with a moose pump?

Thats about right, I push 12-13 in about that time with my 94. I like the instant boost of a gated turbo. My Hypermax on the 6.9 would take forever to build boost but I could get 10-12 out of it.

On mine it takes a couple of seconds to build boost and then it just goes. I think that is normal for my turbo. I need to get a better and bigger air filter and I think it will get better.

i had just taken a left out of a stoplight.
was rolling at like 15mph when I hit that.

trans is a c6 for the moment, when I hit the throttle it goes right to 2500rpms.
I'm curious to see how this changes when I get the zf5 in.

and no, I can hit 15-16 with the moose pump with ease, but I choose not to. Until I rework the engine or at least have the parts handy, I'd rather not exceed 10psi.

I'll check again in the morning, rained all day the truck just broke loose w/no real boost
showing. I'll use 2nd and 3rd to see what my 3.54 geared truck does. Rig is not turned up
but the ATS upgrades, pipe and 4" exhaust are in.

How in Hades did you get boost that high with an 088??

I've only gotten my boost above 7 or 8 a couple of times, and those were on steep climbs in 3rd gear, and it would take a good 10 seconds to get boost that high. That's with an otherwise-stock pump turned up 90 degrees.

Either my turbo's more tired than I thought it was, or I have a boost leak...

I cant get to 10psi, but getting up to my 8psi is about the same I guess. Really depends on what gear and RPM's. If I'm running along at 85mph and 3000rpm's in 4th, it would be about that fast. But if it was 4th gear and 1200rpm's then no LOL

Ah, thats better. I hit 14 Psi once with mine but now it won't go past 10 thanks to an old IP and a leaking intake seal. Turbo response time is worse with manual transmissions because the RPM is slower to rise. Its even worse with a none wastegated turbo like the 088. Just have to remember to gear down if you really need to move.

OK, better day. 2nd gear and mashed the pedal at 1400 and the boost at
9 and definitely sweeping toward 10 the rpm was 2500 with about 2 secs. elapsed.

I have an ATS 088 on mine with 4.11 gears and a C6. Under hard acceleration, I can hit 5-6 in first, maintains or drops to 5 shifting into second, back up to 6-7, and stays around 5 into third. At 55mph, boost rides about 2-3 and as soon as I hammer down, it shoots right to 5 or 6 and climbs right up to 8-9. I haven't went that (I hit 10 for a second or two once, but backecd out). I don't know what my tach is running at because it bounces really bad.
