Body mount question

I went to the tech section to Heath's write-up on the body mount replacement but as with a lot of the older articles, all the pics are gone probably thanks to web shots. It's a good description but I can't quite get my head around how the old mounts come apart and if you need to use parts from the old mounts on the new install. Does anyone have pictures of taking one apart they could post? I'd like to just cut them out but if I need parts I hate to screw them up.

Here's a picture of the 80-86 mounts. I am assuming the later ones are similar.

I will ask this question again. What is the reason I can't use img tags to make the picture show up in the forum? Obviously whoever is running the board is not allowing it for some reason.

Thanks for the diagrams. I think I kinda get what Heath did with his puller now. It seems like he reused the sleeves. I would have thought they would have been replaced.

Well you can get new hardware... but its expensive as heck Cab mount hardware

Holy balls!!! Wow that's pricey. I'm not sure I kept all the core support parts. Not sure I could have got them apart anyway. There wasn't much left. Have to check my parts truck.

Still didn't work for me, all I get is a link. I checked at the bottom of the page and IMG is turned on. Maybe something else is turned off in my preferences somewhere.

Found it. In "general settings" allow images in posts was not checked. Thanks.

Just to tie this up, here is the brute force method for removing the cab mounts if you have the can off. If the cab is not removed you will have to use some type of puller or press.

Take a 7/16" NC bolt about 5-6" long and thread it in the mount from the top side. I used a grade 5 from tractor supply because they didn't have any grade 8 in 7/16"

For good measure I put a nut on the bottom and snugged it up. Unfortunately, a standard nut won't fit down the top.

Couple good blows with the BFH and the bottom popped out.

Here are the front and rear mounts. Stacked together and apart. I didn't push the sleeve out of the tops yet because I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to use them. They are pretty rusty.

Tried that technique on mine...didn't work..blew the nut off the mount ROFL..but KUDOS to you to gitterdun!

Probably if they were that bad you might as well torch them out anyway.

After you mess with these mounts, you realize there is NO metal on metal contact the way they have them setup between the cab and the frame, which gives a noise free cushy ride, but is why ground straps, especially the one going to the firewall to the engine are so important.

I have a copy of Keith's write-up, complete with pictures. It's just a hair over 1MB in size. It's in M$ Word format, so is pretty universal.

I wonder if you sent it to one of the moderators if they would drop it in the tech article section with the pics? There are several tech articles that have lost their pics after the webshots debacle if memory serves. It would be real nice to get them fixed for posterity.

I'd be happy to provide a copy of any/all tech articles I have to the mods. What I have I put into Word, the easiest way for me at the time. The pictures might be a problem, since they're tied into Word. Also, finding a host for them.
