Banks Boost Question.

Before the Rally this year I put on Ken's fuel toys (IP and Stage 1's) and I maxed the wastegate adjustment. I can't make the rod any shorter. However, I max at 8.5-9psi. And I really have to hammer the throttle to get that. After the wastegate adjustment, I only gained about 1 psi.

Any idea why my boost in not up to the 11-12 psi seen by others with Banks turbo's with tweaked wastegates?

Thanks in advance.

At what rpm does it show this boost? Are you pulling a hill or something heavy? What about a leak at the hat to intake or on the back side of the intake. Banks has a blockoff plate with an o-ring to seal things up. At the very last, maybe the gage is *****.... Plenty of things to check out.

Heath,
Are you sure you are getting full throttle? These old beasts are known for having a throttle cable slightly shorter than is needed to max out the injector pump. That could be one reason your not getting full boost. Just a thought.
Good luck,

I had a messed up thottle cable & I used spacers behind the throttle cable bracket bolts to take up the slack. That will get you full throttle. However, I was seeing 11.5 psi of boost with my old pump & injectors after toying with the waste gate. I don't have to get into it more than half pedal to see those numbers either. Are you sure the wastegate is all the way open?

Getting full throttle without a problem. As far as RPM....Tach no worky. -cuss I've only seen 9 psi very breifly on a long uphill coming through the mountains in Tn/Ky. Commonly 7psi is the max boost I see with the truck at WOT accelerating from dead stop.

Checked for leaks....none found. Good seal at intake hat and intake manifold, and good seal between the hat and the compressor.

Maybe my gauge is messed up, but seems to move/function as it should.

Maybe I missed something, but you are supposed the shorten the wastegate rod for more boost. I continue to search for a reason. Thought about contacting Banks, but they will likely stop talking to me once they find out I "moddified" their product by adjusting the wastegate and that I have a DPS modded fuel system. :Sly
