Bad Valve Job Update

Well I have the heads back from the second shop and all the specs are correct. I double checked them all and I'm very happy finally getting what I wanted, I installed them on my block without troubles also. They are torqued to 110 lbs using my Kens studs that are the 270,000 psi ones. I went to the original shop today with the bill for the SECOND VALVE JOB ($421.93) in hand. Sure enough the owner doesn't feel he owes me that much and will meet me about half way . So I tell him like this. If he feels I'm extorting this amount out of him maybe we should just go to court and let a judge figure it out. Now I tell him I have to take some amount of responsibility for this to so if we do go to court I will be asking for the new set of Mahle pistons along with the set of new bare heads and gees I have $300.00 in inconel exhaust vales and lets just throw in the complete gasket set with valley pan from Felpro...... So pistons cost around $550.00, Bare heads at around $700.00 with shipping, Felpro gasket set w/ valley pan $200.00 and inconel valves at $300.00 comes out to around $1750.00 and I really have much more than that in it....... He tells me he will mail me a check on Friday... Is that ok??? Now in the first place I had them do all the machining on my block and bought a set of pistons from them about 1 year ago. The same pistons I have cost me $550.00 form Ebay and this guy charged me at the shop $1100.00 for them. As I'm looking at my bill I see they didn't charge me for some machining work. So they revise the bill another $218.00. I'm an honest person first. Sure, they thank me but this problem is all because they didn't install the freeze plugs correctly or use the stainless steel ones. They admitted they didn't have the special installation tool. So maybe its best that we do go to court. Bottom line is I'm right but I do take some responsibility for what has happened.

I can't remember the whole story on this but I can't really see where you have any responsibility at all. You contracted them to provide some parts and perform some service(s) for you to specifications that you provided. If they were concerned about how you wanted the job done that should have been in big bold letters at the bottom of the invoice- "No Warranty". Further to that if they were unsure of how to perform the work you should have been contacted for consultation. There was no question that the work on the heads had not been performed to industry standard and that was confirmed by the last machine shop and since the first guy didn't make any notation that you specified anything other than industry standard again he is hooped. Sometimes it's not worth pursuing but only you can be the judge of that.
It's good to hear the engine is finally coming together an I'm sure it will be very sweet to hear it fire for the first time.
