ATF in fuel filter

I kinda agree, start your own thread with info on the truck, year,
where ya got it, did it sit for 10 years in a field before you got it etc...
You said you drained the old fuel, how old was it?
Diesel isn`t like gas where it will go bad in a short time.
When I got the 86 10 years ago, guy I got it from said he didn`t use it and prior owner didn`t either. I drove it 5 years, and finally
replaced the tank for a larger one.
Drained the fuel in a 5 gal bucket. and was still clear. Had 4 gallons in it.

ATF, even Marvel Mystery Oil will burn just fine won`t hurt your engine.

Copy that Sir, just got the truck about a month ago from an old man that daily drive it until about a year ago. The fuel I drained was pretty yellow and smells like varnish. It’s an 84 f250 4x4 manual with a sidewinder turbo and gear vendor.
I’m thinking it has a stuck FSS or gummed up IP. I’m going to watch a some videos and then try taking the top off the IP and let some ATF sit inside. Or perhaps marvel mystery oil.
Anyhow, I appreciate everybody’s help. The fact that you take the time to help is awesome. Very much appreciated

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes, the IP will be rotating as the Starter Motor is turning
the Engine, and will be Injecting Fuel into the Cylinders.
The IP is Gear driven off the Cam and Crank Gears.

Hmmmm, well I filled the fuel filter with ATF today and cranked it a for a bit. Hopefully the ATF will clean out the IP enough to get fuel the injectors. If not, I’m thinking boy next step will be to pop the top off and soak it that way/ clean the fss ‍.

If you decide to remove the top, be sure to clean off the dirt
first so you don`t get any inside the pump. I usually blow things loke that off with some Carb Cleaner. I evaporates quickly, and don`t be smoking when doing it.

Really nothing to clean off the FSS. They work or do not. It`s a solenoid with a metal piece that hooks on a lever on the Pump.
Be sure to notice how it is connected as you lift the top.

There is 2 wires that connect to the top on the pump. Think the front one goes to the FSS. With the ignition turned on, remove the wire. You should hear a click ea time you touch the connector.
